A Fire and Ice Christmas

So I was at my annual checkup last week…no not the one with stirrups, the one where the HVAC guys check out the furnace. Anyway, heat exchanger something blah blah something something was cracked and now we’re out 12 grand.

So my gift is shiny and expensive, but not in the same way a piece of fine jewelry would be. When I told the kids we were getting a new furnace and air conditioner, Jake said, “Well, I guess we won't be getting new windows...and Europe’s definitely out.”

Smart Kid.

May your holidays be a little more bling and a little less cha-ching.

Wow. 12 Grand?!?!? Where do you live and what is the size of your furnace? I've replaced a furnace for an 1100 sq ft house due to cracks after an inspection and it was under $4G's (only because it was covered under a new home owners policy and they gouged). I also upgraded one in size when we added onto a house and "under the counter" it was only $1200.

He's one smart kid.

And I just have to tell you - we had a similar experience three years ago. Luckily, we got a second opinion, from someone we know, and it was WAY less expensive. Just a thought.

OMG. Here, let me pick my jaw up off the floor. Okay, wow, I would also get a second opinion on that one. Or else bust out the family snuggies on a more regular basis.

What's sad is that "new windows" are on the list with the European vacation as "good" things to get for Christmas. Sigh.

Hi - I just found your blog and I wanted to say hi. I'm also perpetually in need of getting my gray roots dyed (I've been gray since I turned 18 - lucky me).

We just had to spend $800 on a new motor for the windsheild wipers in our SUV. I wanted to cry.
