Dropping the Ball

This morning we ran out of milk. And toilet paper. And tampons. Each of these might not have seemed like a big deal individually, but together they meant a very stressful start to my day.

I liked it when there was someone here all day who made sure we were well-stocked in necessities. When I opened the closet, towers of paper towels greeted me and made me feel secure. She also made sure the house didn’t look like a sty and that we didn’t accidentally put our NetFlix movies in the recycle bin. She bought a lot of Lean Cuisines on sale so I didn't have to eat Candy Corn for lunch. Oh well.

For those of you who have been ably juggling a job, family, and keeping everyone in food and personal care items for years, I salute you. I hope I get better at it.

Juggling is an art, to be sure. I don't do it particularly well, but I also have few people to please or displease with my skills...or lack thereof.

As long as you keep the important balls up in the air where they belong, the other ones (made of, you know, paper products) will limp along until you have time for them. :-)

I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the grocery store specifically for paper towels, dishwashing liquid or milk... and come home with none of the above.

Happens to me every damn time. A smarter woman might make a list. :-)

This is a constant battle that I wage. As it turns out, the commercials were WRONG and I CAN'T do it all after all. Damn.

Worst working mom moment ever: I pulled up into the EMPTY parking lot of my daughter's school to drop her off on a day when there was NO SCHOOL for whatever reason, and my first thought was WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH HER? I HAVE TO GO TO WORK! Of course, her first thought was YAY, NO SCHOOL! YAY! YAY!
