Am I the only one or is all this talk about The Balloon Boy also making you think about George Costanza and The Bubble Boy?
Or, reaching way back into the mid-70's archives, do you remember that fine example of film making, "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble?" I mean it was no "Ice Castles," but that stuff was G-O-O-D!
Bonus points if you can remember which big star with an even bigger cleft in his chin starred in it. No Googling.

Okay, okay. I'll tell you. Ever seen this looker before?

Definitely Jon Travolta. What happened to him? Man, he's a sucky actor now.
I ABSOLUTELY KNEW JOHN TRAVOLTA before you gave it away! Swearsies. I remember that movie like it was yesterday. OMG. So tragic. I wanted to reach through that bubble and save him. Pathetic teen who?
I knew it was John Travolta, too.
I knew it was John. I cried over that movie for days. I still love that man. Do you remember Vinnie Barbarino?
You are so not the only one. We may be the only two, but you're not the only one!
(and I totally remember that movie! classic cinema action there!)
I've never heard of the movie - but I totally love that seinfeld episode, of course!
My little brother was obsessed with this movie when we were kids. I'm not even sure how he knew about it. He was born in 1991....
ALL I CAN think of is Bubble Boy. I feel badly, but immediately bubble boy comes to mind.
KEEP BELIEVING
I know! Balloon boy, bubble boy - interchangeable.
I didn't make that connection... But I do remember that movie! The things that our children are missing out on...
Oh - and I watched the last episode of Private Practice last night - and one of the storylines was a boy in a "bubble". Wierd...
That is funny stuff. Yeah, I had that thought as well. O had a gut feel about this hoax as soon as I heard about it. It just didn't make sense. Some people are just crazy.
I knew, too. totally remember that!
Not only did I know it was John Travolta, but my reaction was actually a very classy "no duh." Not only do I remember the movie, but I remember he fell in love with Diane Hyland (sp?) who played his mom, and that the tabloid stories reported that he cradled her when she subsequently died of cancer. (Subsequently? No duh. That was one of the movies she made posthumously, I guess is my point.) I also remember when Barbarino got hooked on something and went around saying "gimme drugs, gimme drugs" as if it was a very special Wecome Back Kotter.
As for the Bubble boy episode: nothing tops "oh, no, no,no... the answer is Moops."
OMG, ICE CASTLES!!! I soooo wanted to become an ice skater after seeing that. Lynn Holly Johnson! Robby Benson! Colleen Dewhurst! Tom Skerritt!
jbhat, who even had the "Foto-novel" of Ice Castles
Oh balloon boy. I much prefer Travolta over the freak show, Heene. Poor colorado, that man tainting our image!
I remember that show! I saw it when it came out on tv and I cried and cried. That was one of the very first movies that I can remember watching as a child~
I just spent the last half-hour reading...laughing and crying...you have a gift for stories!
Rene'
thanks for the visit to my place...
I don't think I ever watched it - I heard of it but don't know why I never watched it!
