Thank you for the prayers!
The weekend retreat was AMAZING, and having a little break from Puppy-dom was pretty great, too.
I wrote about my thoughts on Mother's Day for Wake Forest Magazine today. Tim and I met at Wake Forest, so it was so neat to be invited to write for them. I hope you'll head over there and read the article. Mother's Day can be a day of complicated feelings for many, and I want to honor wherever YOU are in this week leading up to Mother's Day.
On Thursday, I'll be speaking at St. John's Episcopal Church in Roanoke, VA on Embracing the Mystery of God in Difficult Times. It's a free event from 6:30-8:30 and I'd love to have you there!
p.s. Any great podcasts I should listen to during the drive? I've already listened to Serial.

As always - a beautiful message for the WFU magazine. Wishing you peace and laughter this week and always. Thanks for sharing.
beautiful article, Anna! I know both your mom and Jack are so proud of you. Have you read Cheryl Strayed's book, Wild, yet? Every time you write about your mother it reminds me of the relationship between Cheryl and her mom. The movie is good too but the book is amazing. Hugs to you!
wait, what?!?! how did i not know this? can't wait to get my magazine!!! chris and i met there as well. :)
Loved teh Wake Forest article, thank you for sharing!
Check out the Strangers podcast, please! It's really wonderful storytelling. Skip the "Love Hurts" series, maybe, though--it kind of grates.
Well written Anna. Mothers Day (and Fathers Day) can be a mixture of emotions for a lot of people.
BTW - we live in Winston Salem and Graylin is one of my favorite places to walk around. :)
A few podcast ideas for you:
This American Life
StartUp
Sporkful
Undisclosed (haven't listened to this one yet, but it's something to do with the Serial case)
Wits podcast is always entertaining, if you like (sometimes weird) comedy and music.
Loved the article! From one Demon Deacon to another!
Have you listened to any Rob Bell? His podcast is called the robcast.
Glad you had a good retreat! Some of my favorite podcasts include: This American Life (great stories); Death, Sex, & Money (the host's name is Anna -- great stories, and she has a soothing voice); For Crying Out Loud (funny, sometimes vulgar, though, two moms' take on raising kids and dealing with LIFE); The Moth (more good stories -- do you see a theme here?).

If you listened to Serial, they are doing a spinoff (or rather a "follow up") called Undisclosed: The State vs. Adnan Syed. It's great. And if this comment shows up 10 times, I apologize, I'm a new commenter.😁
What an amazing article! So beautifully written...yours is a true gift!
I just finished Serial yesterday!! SO good....going to check out Undisclosed thanks to your other reader's suggestions....
I too suggest this American Life, Snap Judgement and Wait Wait don't tell me (this one is hilarious!)
Before I even saw this on my computer you came to mind this morning. I was even thinking of being bold and just sending you a note to say that I was thinking of you as Mother's Day approached.
That was a beautiful piece Anna. My heart aches for you at the same time it reaches out with love and admiration. I hope you can feel the love coming your way from so many.
Beautiful, thank you for sharing this article with us. Keeping you in my thought and prayers.
haven't cried over a post of yours in a while, but i cried over this article. you have such a beautiful way with words. it captures perfectly what it must be like to mourn and celebrate someone at the same time, forever.
my favorite part was at the end, where you mention that you think of Jack with more laughter than tears these days. makes my heart sing for you.
