So the Washington area has reported that we might get a "sleazy" mix of rain, snow, and sleet tomorrow. Huh? I took Margaret and a friend out to dinner tonight and told them of this weird, new terminology. I mean I've heard of a "sleety" mix or a "wintry" mix, but never "sleazy."
Margaret's response without missing a beat:
"Yeah, sleazy mix sounds more like when you combine a Pole Dancer with an Exotic Dancer."
Yikes.
That noise you just heard was our television crashing through the front window.
In our defense, she learned what these things were by watching "Cake Boss" and "America's Got Talent." Of course I already told you about "Toddlers and Tiaras" today, so we may not have any defense at all.

ok, that's funny- that is exactly what i thought when i heard sleazy weather. makes me think it is going to be raining slimy people....
LMAO... LOVE IT!! I hope Margaret doesn't mind if I borrow that!? :)
scary what kids know, sometimes. she's not asking for a pole, so it's okay. :)
we don't have a tv.
well, we have a tv, but no cable. for movies.
well, we have netflix.
and, um, hulu.
i guess we have a tv.
I'm with Margaret on this one! Can't wait to see what the weather really brings! Maybe it really will be sleazy!
I just thought it was going to dress very skimpily...
I have been following your blog since the request went out on facebook for your sweet daughter to meet Justin Beiber. As it turns out you live in the same town and went to school with a former coworker of mine. Anyway I have been talking about you with a friend (my best friend in high school) who lost her son a couple years ago. He was 17. She told me she would like for me to get you in touch with her. She needs a friend desperately. I mean I am her friend but I don't have a clue what she is going through. I know it is a special club and it is a club I have NO desire to be a member of. If you would like to talk to her you can reach me on facebook. my name is Teresa Kluttz Thomann and I will get you in touch with her.
I don't think sheltering Margaret from the evils of reality TV would make a difference. She's a character!
Sorry lunch didn't work out today. Let's try for next week!
I think I love that girl!!
Hahahaha - dang Margaret, you are one quick witted girl. I've never heard of "sleazy" weather - but now I'm going to try to find the DC channel that said that. Sooo funny.
That Margaret has a great vocabulary. She really nailed the meaning there -- much better than the weather reporter. We are having some sleazy weather ourselves...
I love Margaret! And honestly, if we are to teach them right from wrong...there has to be a little "wrong" for them to make the connection.
Toddlers and Tiaras... wrong. But, like a train wreck, we must focus in on it to know what is wrong.
Okay, love her!! You know she gets her smarts and wit from you, right?
Don't worry about the small stuff. You're surviving and doing the best you can right now. A little TV isn't going to hurt anyone, even if it's Toddlers and Tiaras. Who cares, I say! We all need some brain rot now and then. :)
What's a pole dancer?
Margaret. Rocks.
What a hoot! Love that girl of yours.
Margaret sounds soooo much like my 12 year daughter! There are times the things she says has us in fits of laughter and other times leaves us with our mouths open wide.
I tell my daughter that she has a gift with the way she sees (and says) things just as Margaret does. No holds barred at times that's for sure:) I hope she doesn't lose it though, I used to be like that as a kid but become more restrained as I grew up. Only finding now in my early forties that the real me is that kid and need to embrace her.
Love that Margaret is such a character:)
OK, now that I have cleaned the coffee off the computer screen...
Loving that Margaret - not only is she funny - but she is right, that is what I thought too.
When she starts her own blog it will be a hit!
Way to go Margaret for seeing the humor in the ridiculous. Hugs and prayers
Sleazy weather eh :) Now I'll expect to see exotic pole dancers falling from the sky..
Tell M that I got caught up watching "Toddlers and Tiaras" (or mostly the psycho moms)the other night... :P
Lou
(P.S. my word verification for this post is "crylog" -- which I have done of late here!)
OK she's got serious one-liner talent and excellent timing...and to be honest, the weatherman started it.
Look, I'll be honest- I laughed at this! Your family is adorable!
"Out of the mouths of babes"... oh too funny...Margaret is brilliant!
Margaret is wonderful! She's also ten...Do you know what I learned on the bus IN KINDERGARTEN thirty years ago? Don't worry so much about the TV. She'd find out that, and worse, just from her peers.
Tell Margaret thanks for making a grown woman wet her pants. Hysterically and horrifyingly funny. You can turn off the t.v. but she can still read headlines on smarmy magazines at the drugstore. ;)
Go Margs! She is funny, for sure. Still second place to her funny mom, but closing the gap.
Oh my that is just too funny!
Out of the mouths of babes. That would be shocking to a mom that she knows those terms. She's pretty right on, tho. Ha, ha.
She's darling. 10 going on 20.
love,
jbhat
beautiful pic
That's very funny.
Cute picture of you two!
Take care,
Pam
Ha!
My 10yo boy has been saying some very interesting things lately, too. Yikes is RIGHT!
Margaret, girl, you are absolutely right.
Thanks for making mama laugh.
I'm snorting with laughter over here.
:-)
Journalists can really butcher things though, and then they have to add words to the dictionary.
That's too funny when kids say things like that. I was watching my 3 year old granddaughter the other day. She stubbed her toe and said "Oh F!" Her mommy got an immediate call from me. by the way, your daughter is gorgeous, just like her mommy. ♥
That reminds me of Christmas 2010: my 8 year old son telling the family at the dinner table how he wanted to be a priest one day and his 8 year old female cousin responding, "Yeah, not me...I want to be a pole dancer!" My 21 year old niece looks at my mom and says, "Look at it this way Grandma...at least after she dances, she'll have somebody to confess her sins too!" My mom almost fell out of her Catholic chair laughing her ass off! Go Margaret!
BA HA HA!!! Precious pic, btw...
Hahahahahaha!!!!! I'll never forget being Margarets age and yelling into the kitchen, "Hey mom, what's a call girl?". In comes mom to turn off Threes Company, and never let me watch it again. But somehow, I still watched Dallas and General Hospital with her... We don't have to make sense ALL the time. At least I hope not.
I'm fairly certain that my 10 year old daughter knows more about "life" than her older sister. Not to mention that she has a very finely tuned "intimacy-dar". If my husband pinches my butt, she will shout from an out-of-line-of-sight room "stop that daddy"!
Oh the things Margaret & Emily might teach each other, however inaccurate their understanding! Each time I read about your children, I fall in love with them a little more! Thank you for including pictures... you are all so easy to gaze upon. :)
Hi, my name is Heather! Please email me when you can, I have a question about your blog!

"too much TV" is a myth. I say it doesn't exist.
Surely sleazy weather is when its ' Its raining men, allelulia'.
Yikes, not the words you want to hear coming form that sweet innocent mouth! TV is terribly educational isn't it?
LOL! That's crazy to think she would hear it on such innocent shows. Geez! I find it really difficult to protect my kids from the crap they hear on TV, even when I'm already blocking Cartoon Network. Ugh!
