Show No Fear

You know I’m a house junkie who reads decorating mags like porn. Sometimes, however, I get sick of how seriously the decorating world takes itself.

If I have to read one more time about how someone, “fearlessly mixes patterns and colors” or “fearlessly uses spray paint,” or “fearlessly” shops at thrift shops and designer showrooms, I’ll scream.

Fearlessly? Seriously?

We’re talking about decorating, not Darfur.

I never thought about it but your right 'fearlessly' is over used.

I laughed the phrase reading decorating mags like porn. Oh, that rang a bell with me.

People who take themselves to seriously make me laugh.

But not in a good way ;)

SO true! What exactly is fearless anyway? Are there decorating militia that rove around putting quirky decorators in concentration camps. Ridiculous choice of words. I would suggest "unapologetic" - that still has some panache, but doesn't imply a life or death situation.

Ha ha- too funny! I love your phrase about decorating magazines being your "porn". I would definitely say that looking at travel sites I can't afford is my form of pornography. I oggled this site about a Tuscan villa for like twenty minutes today: http://www.rentvillas.com/PropertyDetail.aspx?Catalog=12799

Ha...that's a good one. They act as if it's the word of the month. Or it's better than water.
~Great post~

I think the same things.

Yesterday, I fearlessly informed the hunky 20 year-old Lowes dude that I want to order white berber carpet.

White? With 2 kids and a dog? Never decorate while under the influence of an estrogen surge.

I'm not feeling so fearless anymore.

ha. i love this. you are right. they act like every one is such a decorating rebel -- yet so often it's pretty much looking the same.... and i am so not a decorator -- but love the mags

Me too with the decorating mags! Funny thing is...in THOSE magazines the cost of financing their crazy whims are probably FEARLESS in terms of them spending $10,000 for an ugly paint job and another $10,000 for a sofa. Sad!

What are you talking about?

I, for one, am totally fearless in all I do!

I just tried a new brand of toilet paper only last week....

Oh, this is all kinds of awesome. I laughed. You're right - fearlessly really is overused.
