A Tisket, A Tasket, Check Out My Great Big Basket!

So, I had a little lapse in my "no thrift store shopping summer" on Monday. I managed to spend $60, mostly on clothes. My new theory is that if I go MORE OFTEN, perhaps I won't spend as much. Thoughts?

The bargain of the day was this gorgeous basket. Please don't ask if I needed a basket, or if I had recently gotten rid of a ton of baskets at our charity yard sale. This is an entirely different basket, you see. It looks a little orange-y next to our oak front door, but it's really a nice, weathered color.

Couldn't you just picture it in my (non-existent) mudroom full of shoes or beach towels, or backpacks?

At 25% off of $2.92 (that's $2.19 people!) it was a steal.

Problem is, I've told Tom I'll sell it on Craigslist if I can't find a place for it.
So far-- too big for the kitchen, hallway, office. Please help me find a use for it so I can keep it.

Here are some visuals, and a 9 year old girl, to help you with scale:

My favorite is the one where Shadow tried to get in on the action and knock the basket over.
Linking to Second Time Around Tuesday.
P.S. I know it's Wednesday.

I love baskets... my husband, not so much. That is a great one. I would keep it around because you just never know.

Awesome pics of the basket! I love baskets!

Hmmm...would it work at the bottom of a closet for now? Until you could find a proper place for it?

Can you use it in whatever room you watch TV and movies in for extra blankets? Of course, then you need cute blankets! Or at least a cute one for the top of the pile. :)

Also, you could use it for Shadow's toys. One of my labs loves rooting in the toy basket and getting out every toy.

Do you have a pantry? Could you use it in there to corral something?

Or how about in the linen closet for stray/extra pillows, cases, or sheets?

I'm done now and will shut up! :)

Oooh! I love all the ideas! Thanks, girls. This basket will NOT be sold on Craigslist. And Nichole, oh how I wish I had a bigpantry. :)

Hey Anna,
It's nice to meet you here -- love your blog and you crack me up! Not sure about the basket -- frankly, you are feeding a personal obsession of mine, so there's no way I'm telling you to get rid of it...unless you'd consider selling it to me. I'd even give you full price! :)

Rolled up bath towels would look lovely in it.

Walk-in closet?

Country home?

That thing is huge!

I would rearrange my whole house to make a space for that $2.19 basket.

For all the family shoes near a door or in a hallway.

Or have another baby and you could use it as a baby bed.

you remind me of my mom. "But it was on sale". Yeah but it would have been even cheaper if you didn't buy it. Ha!

I love the basket.
But who am I?
Just another thrift-store-shop addict.

...Who today bought:
1) Two pairs of wedges, one white, one brown
2) A black dress
3) A parrot pendant
4) Wall stickers, butterfly

and

5) A gold cool-butt ring

...at the Salvation Army.

So really, you shouldn't ask my thoughts on this matter.

i think a new baby would look great in that basket. sort of like a little bassinette. tell THAT to your husband!
what about a hamper?
a place for blankets/afghans/quilts?

it's too good a basket and bargain to let go.

How about placing it outside with seasonal plants stuck in? I would be a great "statement" piece!!!

I love baskets. We have a large one like this that holds my kids book bags. Maybe you could use it inside a closet (although, it'd be a shame to hide it.)

I want that basket.

OMG, are those doggie paws in the air on the last pic! I LOVE THAT. The funny thing about this post is that I'm about to leave to go to the thrift store now! Clearly, this is a good sign!

What a beautiful blog! I am writing about three little men and one big one too in a story I'm posting at www.afacebookstory-oneclickaway.blogspot.com. I hope you will take a peek.

Hee hee. I say, is there a place at work that you can use it until you can sneak it back in to your house? Or, maybe, on your back porch (covered) to put newspapers in for recycling? I'd say, start looking in catalogs to see what THEY put in big baskets.

ps I am so jealous that you are going to Blogher. Will you be posting? If not, will you PLEEEZE get on Twitter so I can hear your updates? Or are you on Facebook or something? I want to know your up-to-the-minute thoughts from someone I can relate to.

Ha! I did something similar recently. Big, pretty baskets are hard to come by and in a normal shop that one would be at least $45-$60! Good job.
I am using my big basket find to hold extra blankets & pillows in the family room for now.
Like you I had to put it to good use quickly to prove it was worth bringing home....mine was even free...but that wasn't good enough to convince him! Men!
