Bump Watch, 34 Weeks!

I'll be at 35 weeks on Monday, so I thought you might like an updated picture of baby and mama!

Things are going well!

The baby is super active, and last night Margaret and I got to see one of those alien-like pokes where it looked like a whole hand or foot was coming out of my side. Very cool!

Please continue to pray that he is developing well, that he comes at the right time for him, and that I can get some much-needed sleep before he makes his debut. My feet have also started swelling a lot, so I'm just hoping that is still in the normal range. The doc didn't seem concerned yesterday, but all I can think of is Lady Sybil from Downton Abbey and her swollen little foot, and also how pre-eclampsia risk goes way up with maternal age and the longer you go between having babies. Eek.

Thank you for caring about us, and TGIF!

If you haven't had signs of preeclampsia yet, you are probably good--if you started to have signs of it, they would probably pump you up with steroids and deliver once they had a chance to work. I had my first signs at 31 weeks and spent the next month going in and out of the hospital. I was induced at 35 weeks when my blood pressure went sky high. My little guy was fine, but spent a week in the NICU learning how to eat and regulate his temperature. Looking at him 12 years later, you'd never know he was a preemie.

I laughed out loud when I read the tag "Geriatric Pregnancy" under this post! 46 is not geriatric and you are not a woman past her prime. You look much better than many women in their 20s and 30s who are pregnant who frequently look much more weighed down and swollen than you have ever looked. I promise you no one will ever mistake you for that baby's grandmother. You look youthful, vibrant, beautiful and happy. Love seeing the photos and it's so odd that I'm looking forward to the birth of a stranger's baby whose blog I just happened to stumble upon while reading another blog. Lots of good wishes and prayers being sent your way! P.S. This is coming from a 33-year-old who is 5'5" and keeps her weight at 95 lbs so I'm pretty particular about personal appearance. If I've bothered to stop and tell you that you look great, I really mean it. :)

Like the others have said-you look amazing! Check out www.blueribbonbaby.org if you are worried about preeclampsia-the Brewer diet -was very helpful for me with my last pregnancy-it may offer you some relief!

Beautiful mama, and Jack and Margaret's little brother will be beautiful, too!

Tell Tim I am happy for him as well. He must be so proud and so happy.

You know, I took my younger daughter to the mall yesterday, and thought of Jack as we passed the LEGO store. I saw that it was packed as it was a Saturday afternoon. Just know he will be remembered.

Care, love, all good wishes, and prayers,

Shannon, Dan, Megan, Mitchell, and Rachel

You look amazing! I was pregnant (twice) in my 30s and by 34 weeks, even though I felt great, I was looking pretty bloated. The only big part of you is your belly! Hope the next few weeks go smoothly and you're able to get some sleep.

Oh man, I hate being THAT comment-leaver who feels like she must share her boring cautionary tale but I am going to do it anyway!

Pre-eclampsia can strike up to six weeks AFTER delivery, and do not let the nurses or doctors dismiss your swelling feet if that's unusual for you. I had my second baby at age 38, and my blood pressure was fine throughout the entire pregnancy (110/75). After I delivered, my feet started to swell enormously. I mentioned it to the nurses and they said it was fine and it would go away on its own. I explained to them that the swelling I'd had with my first baby had decreased, not increased after delivery, but they were totally unconcerned. So I accepted my discharge, even though my feet were too swollen to fit into the same shoes I'd worn on arrival to the hospital. I walked to the car barefoot!

The next day I felt all wrong. We went to the ER , and my BP was 195/90, and my heart rate was 50! My chest was scanned for blood clots (I had none, thank goodness) and they gave me medication to bring down my bp immediately. The next day I went to see my OB, who put me on more medication and diuretics and potassium, and everything normalized within a few days (I did not have to continue any medication after that). Anyway, just listen to your instincts, and don't be a people pleaser when it comes to your health. My problem was I didn't want to argue with the nurses too much, but that was a big mistake.

Good luck to you. I am sure everything will be fine. You are a total stranger to me but I am so happy and excited for you, Anna.

You're looking great, Anna. When I had my last, at almost 40, I put on 64 pounds eating ice cream twice a day. I was one BIG bump. Keeping you and yours in my thoughts.

Greetings from St Albans, UK. Lovely to see pictures and you do look wonderful. And your house is (also) very stylish and the space you have created is inspiringly clutter free and organised! We had an double storey extension built while I was pregnant and it was a nightmare with all the dust and builders mess. Became quite OCD about electricity, food and cleaning. 14 years on, our house is very cluttered with "stuff" - an eclectic mix of finds from ebay which is my late night hobby. Plus usual family stuff including husband, son and two elderly adopted cats! Thinking of you all and thank you for sharing and in my thoughts.

I recently was present when you spoke at my church, Trinity Presbyterian. I have shared with some of my counseling clients about your experience, and recommended Rare Bird. I just wanted to say that I am so very happy for the healthy arrival of your Andrew. Blessings to you all
