Stitch Fix Review-- Maternity Edition!

I almost panicked when I saw that I had another Stitch Fix shipment on the way in October. I was afraid they would send me a bunch of cute clothes I couldn't wear.

Fortunately, I was able to send a quick message saying that I'm pregnant and already up 12-15 lbs. A few days later, my fix came. Stitch Fix now has maternity clothes! I am still waiting for them to start carrying plus sizes so that everyone can take part in the fun of getting cute clothes in the mail selected by a personal stylist, and have given them feedback with that request.

Here are the 5 items that were in my fix:

Blake Poncho Pullover Sweater ($68) and Porter Maternity Leggings ($58):

The poncho is soft and hangs very nicely. It covers my rear even when I'm wearing leggings. Not sure how to wear a coat with a poncho in the winter. Is that even possible? Do I even care? Verdict: Keep.

The leggings were made out of very thick, stretchy material that provided great coverage and control. I could tell they were very high quality. The drawback was they were size small, and I could have used medium. They felt tight around my knees and I figured that meant they wouldn't work for me for very long. I think this price is reasonable for something that could be worn every single day, and I really wish they fit. Verdict: Return

p.s.  I have since ordered two pairs of legging from Motherhood maternity, but they were thin, almost like tights or hose rather than leggings. Now, I'm out $30 and still don't think I have something that's going to work. If you know of good maternity leggings, please let me know.

Santomasso Tie Neck Maternity Blouse ($68):

I felt a bit funny at first in this one b/c it was so roomy. However, I hope to be filling it out soon. It is the perfect color for me and has cute elastic cuffs. This blouse is super comfortable and has nice gathers in the back. Also, it's long enough to wear with leggings. I think the price is really steep for a blouse, especially considering I buy most of my clothes at a thrift store. However, I am considering this fix to be my pregnancy splurge and hope to borrow other maternity clothes from my much-younger friends! Verdict: Keep.

Alfonso Off-Shoulder Maternity Top ($48)

Super soft, lightweight material and nice length. However, it was already way too tight. I'm not that far along, so I can still wear regular clothes. Once I get a tad bigger, this top will be too tight across the front, as it already is across the rear. Also, since I'll be pregnant in the winter, I want clothes that will be warmer than this (written by a woman currently under a blanket and wearing knee socks).

Dariah Maternity Abstract Faux Wrap Dress ($108)

Super soft, drape-y material. Perfect length for me and it covers my arms, too. I love this dress, and although the print is sort of busy, I like it a lot. This dress is pretty pricey, but I justified it by promising myself I'd wear it to all of my speaking engagements and to church. If you see me at a dressy event and I'm not wearing this dress, please chastise me. Verdict: Keep.

So, I'm keeping 3 items and returning 2. I consider that a great fix! If you would like to try Stitch Fix for yourself, feel free to click on my link below:

Hi Anna! I got some really great fleece lined leggings from Cents of Style. They are high waist and so comfy. Love your keep choices!

I bought a lot from Old Navy (Maternity) even though I was older too (42). A lot of great, inexpensive options for fall/winter. Leggings/sweaters/tops/etc and they have a lot of online sales. I found better quality than Motherhood Maternity. So happy for you!

Everything looks great. Question. Can't you return the leggings with a request for a larger size?

You know I love Stitch Fix and this is so fun to see the maternity clothes. Love the blouse! Love the poncho! Love that you're growing a BABY!!! I'm so excited I can barely stand it. I've never tried to return for a different size. Can you do that with the leggings? Worth a shot if they were high quality, right? I think leggings are hard to find. I hear Hue makes the best ones but not sure if they have maternity. Happy Day to you!!!

Check out Blanqi -- http://www.blanqi.com/ -- I had the 'bodystyler' -- wore it daily and then gave to Angela. :D I loved it and assume their leggings are equally awesome. Congratulations!!

I think that blouse and dress are pure awesomeness. You look beautiful!

Have you looked at the company lularoe? They're not maternity leggings and i'm not sure what size you are but they make two sizes, one size (0-12) and tall & curvy (12-22)(they'll also fit skinnier but taller women so those might work for you and the quality is amazing. Congrats on your pregnancy :)

Bought some online from Old Navy and I thought they were comfortable, thick and cute (and you can return if you don't like). Plain balck ones with a regular waist and patterned ones with the belly panel.

Oh! And by the way, so happy, elated, and excited for you! :)

Anna, my daughter is a StitchFix stylist (not the maternity department--they have their own specialists!) and she recommends contacting Hello@StitchFix.com to ask for a different size leggings [if you want them]. They really DO want you to love the things you get and will accommodate you whenever they can. Your items are beautiful and you look great in them. Best wishes to your whole family!

I'm really glad you're keeping the red dress and the poncho - those two are my favorites. And yes, that green is YOUR color. Love all the choices. Don't they have maternity leggings? That would be so cool.

Wow! The pieces that, I'll agree, were a little pricey look AMAZING on you. I'm so glad you kept them. I'm a fellow thrift shopper, but occasionally I'll splurge, and it's so worth it when it's something that works so well.

My pregnancies were a decade ago, plus, but I relied a lot on Old Navy at the time (I see they were recommended here, too). Cute, unfussy, comfortable clothes at a reasonable price.

Also, since you're in the area--have you been to Unique Thrift in Merrifield? I haven't looked at their maternity section, but they have everything under the sun in that store, and it's well organized.

You look great in all of those clothes!

Have you ever tried majamas? I loved them because they were so soft and comfortable they felt like pajamas. But they were perfectly acceptable to wear as day clothes! I also loved my Bravado bra so much! Good luck!!

You look great! The gap fit maternity leggings worked great for me! They are reasonably priced too if you get them on sale!

Macy's sells Motherhood Maternity and their return policy is SO much better. Just wanted to pass along a little tip. :)

You look awesome and Stitch Fix looks so fun!

You look very cute, and very happy! Cool that Stitch Fix does maternity! And cool that you need to use that service! :) :) :)

I was also very happy with Old Navy Maternity! I have a love/hate relationship with the idea that my leggings don't fit now that the baby is here! ;-)

You look wonderful in all of the fixes, and I'm so happy you kept the dress! It's perfect!

I admit, I missed the post where the blessed news was announced.

How in the? What the what?

No, no, I most certainly do not mean how did Anna get pregnant? I simply, yet complexly, marvel at the work of a God who always knows our needs better. I stammer because the happiness I feel for your family is immeasurable. I rejoice that redemption is there for the broken hearted.

I recall commenting that first Christmas after Jack's death. I wondered if you knew comfort. Did you feel joy? Was there peace? Could you find hope? I said look no further, it is there swaddled in the manger. Once again a babe is coming to bring you comfort, joy, peace and hope.

How marvelous the work of our Savior!

I love the dress! I have not had much luck with stitch fix but love seeing others who find great pieces. You spoke at my church a few weeks ago (All Saints Chevy Chase) and I am still processing and currently reading rare bird. I thought I could not read it (having three kids 9,7,3) but hearing you actually drove me to read. Thank you for your real sharing, your raw honesty, your humor and for clinging to our Lord. You have shifted me in some way I can't put into words and for that I am grateful. Blessings!

So now that I am about to start another one I went to your blog and went "What the"!!!!! I am so excited for you and for your family. What an amazing gift! Can't wait to be on this journey with you through your blog and just know we will all be supporting you and helping any way that we can! Bless you! Tell your daughter congrats on being a big sister!
