Listen to Your Mother!

I am honored to be taking part in Listen to Your Mother DC on May 6. LTYM features live readings by local writers. The pieces we will read touch on various aspects of motherhood. As you can imagine, my piece will deal with our unexpected loss of Jack.

LTYM was started in Madison, Wisconsin several years ago by the fabulous Ann Imig of Ann's Rants. It went national last year, and will be in 10 cities this year!

Each show contributes to a charitable cause. LTYM D.C.'s contribution will go to the Susan Niebur IBC Research Fund, set up in honor of an amazing D.C. blogger who lost her battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer this fall.

The show is at 2pm on Sunday, May 6 at the Syntetic Theater in Crystal City. If you are local, I'd love to see you there. Unless I'm in the fetal position backstage. But either way, it'll be a great show!

LTYM DC tickets are on sale here.

I SO wish I could be there. Alas, I'll be in Florida, sippy a cocktail on the beach. But I'll be thinking of you all. Especially you. And Tim, and Margaret, of course. Big fat hugs, Anna. xoxo

It sounds silly to say or think BUT I'm so proud of you. Proud of you for putting one foot in front of the other. Nothing is impossible - I learned that from a remarkable young man!!!

Go get em.

You'll do great! You are the bravest woman I know (except we've never met?). I won't be able to be there but hopefully, we can see it online? Hugs and prayers to you, Tim and Margaret.

This is the happiest news of my day, for you so deserve this opportunity.

You won't be fetal. You'll be Jack's mom.....who everybody knows is amazing.

If I lived nearby, I'd be there -- since I can't, I'll be there in spirit :) Remember that of all of us, as you're waiting to go on and tell your story. You will do great!

Thank you, thank you for doing this for Susan. On our way back from Knoxville a week or so again, I just happened to glance out the side window and I literally gasped at the moon, the plants and the stars. I had my husband to pull over on a side road where he could safely get out of car and how AMAZING the stars were that night....and I thought of Susan and her boys and just hoped their daddy had taken them outside that night and showed them as she would have done. I ADMIRE you for doing this....it will take strength but His Grace is unlimited. Through HIS strength, you not only can do it, but you will honor Jack. Prayers and love in Jesus Christ, Devonia

"Do you remember the first time a book took your breath away? The first time you disappeared between the covers of one of the Little House on the Prairie books, a Madeline L’Engle fantasy, or even Harriet the Spy, and you said YES, THIS. This is what I’ve been trying to say. These are my words and my soul. These are my people. This is where I fit in. These are the people that make me feel closer to all people. These are the words (or images, or sounds) that feed my soul, and make me a better person. Ever feel that way? And when the words come to an end, the last few pages disappear, and the notes crescendo, you are at once deeply satisfied and deeply disappointed that there is no more?

The amazing thing about this medium we call blogging is that there is always more. There is (almost) always another post by that blogger-friend who writes your soul. There is (almost) always another adventure by that blogger-friend who keeps you laughing, brings the tears, or invites you to say, YES, THIS. And this is the amazing thing about blogging. And friends."

I love to see women helping women.
Congratulations on this wonderful honor, Anna.

I love that you get to do this. You'll be wonderful, and I hope that I will be able to tune into the program online afterwards. I listened to you speaking at Jack's service, Anna....you were amazing. This will be a piece of cake compared to that.

love,

How in the world are you going to be able to speak? But I know you will. I have a lump in my throat just thinking about it so it's perhaps best that I can't go. That said, I would totally be there if I could!!!

I stumbled across your blog today. My daughter passed away November 2010 and it seems that this year has been harder than ever. Thank you for putting into words so many of my thoughts and prayers.

I'll be there to listen to you, my friend. I know our Lord made you strong enough to speak so beautifully at Jack's funeral and I know He'll get you through this too. My heart still aches and cries out to our Lord a zillion times a day. I've got Jack's pic from your laminated cards facing me as I am at my kitchen sink and his smile prompts all those prayers. Love You, Karen
