I'm a Belieber!

Okay, I need to admit I will have very little understanding of some of what you are about to read in this post, but the lowdown is that thanks to your comments and enthusiasm after reading Margaret's sweet, poignant "grocery list" last week, I'm now starting to believe there will be a chance my little girl will get to meet Justin Bieber!

Why? Well, you have emailed Ellen, you have called in favors to your brother's ex-girlfriend's college roommate's mom. You have tweeted. No stone is left unturned!

You have pulled together to put a smile on Margaret's face, and I have to believe that something great will come of it.

Here's the thing. I don't tweet. I don't even understand it. I tried to understand it for about 5 seconds before doing what I usually do-- throw up my hands and ask my sister to figure it out for me. I may only be 18 months younger, but I know how to be the youngest child.

Then, I asked her to try to explain it in simple terms for me (and anyone else out there who might be a tad technologically challenged).

Those who are seasoned tweeters can laugh at my cluelessness-- laugh away as long as your tweeting fingers are moving! If you have any tweeting advice, like about hash tags (?) and key words (?) please let us know in the comments.

So, without further adieu, here's my sister:

How to Tweet:
Go to www.twitter.com and create an account. You do not have to use your real name. If you have a business account and want to create another just for this fun project, that is also easy to do.

Once you have created your account, use the search button (like a magnifying glass) to find the following people to follow. Click the person, then “follow.” You can also start from one of my tweets and click on the other names to follow from there. Easy peasy.

@JBLiftMargaret (our semi-official, Go Margaret identity)
@justinbieber (the real person!)
@scooterbraun (his manager)
@studiomama (his mom)
@bieberarmy (huge fan club)
@theellenshow (Ellen does lots of fun things like this to help people)
@tumblegrom (family friend)
@tumblegrommom (the brains behind this operation)

Unless you have followers, no one will see your tweets. SOOOO, tweet directly to the people above by starting your tweet with “@justinbieber” or whoever you want to have see the message. Please also include “@JBLiftMargaret” in your tweet to tie them all together (see Heather’s tweet below). You only get 140 characters so sometimes it is a challenge to get the size down. I have tinyurls for some links to the blog (Yes, I found out how to do that, too! See above) and the Fairfax Times article (Thanks, Heather! See below) that you can copy, or you can just re-tweet (RT) our posts. To do that, click the little thing that looks like recycle arrows. Except square. And only two arrows.

Heather's sample tweet: @justinbieber please hlp ease Margarets pain, her bro Jack was killed in a flood last month tinyurl.com/3gkdc2 She<3s U! @JBLiftMargaret

I included the link to Margaret’s shopping list in most of my tweets. Every time I read it I long with all my heart to give her what she really wants, Jack.

Since we can’t do that, let’s try to do this. Justin Bieber gets tons of requests on his time, so it will really take an OVERWHELMING amount of attention for this to happen. I think we can do it.

In the meantime, I am just thankful for something to d

  10. I just wrote a post about Justin Bieber. I was helping him make chili, because I do absurd things like that. I now I feel like my time definitely could have been put to better use by telling him to come meet Margaret.

    I'll get to tweeting!

  11. I emailed The Ellen Show last week with this request and will be pleased to continue the efforts via twitter. Maybe we should all include our twitter names so we can follow each other and RT (retweeting for you newbies!) to our own followers? Maybe dreams do come true?

  34. I started a twitter account several months ago for roller derby stuff, and then promptly forgot about it. I just posted my very first tweets!

    I *do* believe in magic (or miracles or whatever you want to call it) and wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this happens for Margaret. LET'S DO THIS!!

  35. I have RT'd this out (re tweeted) but I STRONGLY feel that twitter is as good as prozac.

    Not even kidding.

    I think you'd love it.

    A friend is always just a millisecond away.

  36. I know we are all tweeting away at Mr. Bieber, but thought it might be fun to do one other thing. If we all could have ourselves, friends, family, whoever, post photos of themselves on twitter holding a "lift Margaret" sign or note, and mark it with the #liftmargaret hashtag, so it could possibly trend on twitter.Pictures from all over the country/world. How cool for her to see how people from everywhere are thinking of her, and trying to make her wish come true. I have a friends in Africa and LA that could get the ball rolling.
    Just a thought...

  37. Ok..second email sent to Ellen just now....don't know if you thought of this...but go with me..."twitter"...."tweet'...bird noise.....Jack!

  40. I'm such a Belieber than I'm just waiting for Klout to tell me I'm influential about Justin Bieber.

  41. I have never felt any motivation to send a tweet until reading your blog this weekend. I am so hopeful that the right person will see these messages and bring a smile to Margaret. And for those of us so wanting to do something - anything - to help your family - this is a great assignment. Proud to be a member of Margaret's Twitter Army!

  42. LOVE the #liftmargaret idea - LOVE. try to mention Beiber in every tweet. I work in this social media world and I use Hootsuite, which I'm sure his folks do too - any time his name is mentioned they will see it. So even if you're not tweeting directly to him include that name! Also, if @JBliftmargaret can let us know where JB is in the world - maybe we can make it more personal. "Hope South America is amazing. When you get back #liftmargaret #justinbeiber @JBliftmargaret" Thanks for sharing Margaret's wish with us, Anna.

  51. My sister-in-law is an Academy Award winning actress and she's in on it too. She's "making calls." I also wrote to Ellen, tweeted Ellen, tweeted Bieber in the middle of the night while he was tweeting! I also set up a facebook group page with really NO idea how to do it.

    See if this works:

  58. A friend of mine left me the following message today and I'm keeping my fingers crossed:

    Hi Kristin ~
    I apologize for not sending out e-mails until this morning but I've contacted 2 people who are well connected in Hollywood and 2 people that are managers for recording artists in the music industry. Fingers crossed that one of these contacts may be able to help Margaret's wish come true!
    Sincerely ~

  59. I haven't been on your blog in a couple of weeks, but will tell you that the moment I read that list, I made it my mission in life for Margaret to meet Justin Bieber. I have called every celebrity photographer I know (I work for a photography magazine), written to Ellen Degeneres(was very randomly on her show once and feel like we are pals, not really, but I can pretend) and am starting an NBC campaign through some people I know since he will be on the Today show in November. If I can help in some way to do this one thing to bring your family some Joy, I will bend over backwards to make it happen! Fingers crossed!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I tweeted to each famous person/mom/agent tonight and I'll continue to do it!

  61. Anna,

    I just found out through a friend that works at NBC that I can get two tickets for Margaret and you to at least go to the Justin Beiber concert at the Today Show. Is this something you might be interested in? If so, just write me at lorireale@mac.com and I can give you details. I tried really hard for a personal meeting, but for some reason they are being sticklers on this dumb Halloween costume contest requirement. But, maybe you could continue the tweeting campaign letting him know you would be there and something could happen. I'm also still exploring some other connections I have for a meeting.

    Anyway, let me know if you would like to go!

    All the best,
    Lori

  62. For Margaret and Margaret alone, I'm a Belieber. We can do this. :)

    P.S. I held out on Twitter for the longest time. I've been on it since January and I still don't always get it.

  63. All over this. It is GOING to happen, I know it. How can we contact you if (when?) something comes through?
