1)You needed reading glasses to see the pee-stick results this time.
2)The terms Push Present, Baby-moon, and Gender Reveal are new to you.
3)The last time you wore maternity clothes, they were amorphous denim overalls and shirts built like tents; this time you wear clingy sweaters and leggings that accentuate your age baby bump.
4)You find yourself tossing around words like bouncy seat, diaper genie and stroller, but everyone else is talking about the Nose Frida, Moby Wrap and travel systems.
5) You thought swaddle was a verb, but somehow it appears to be a noun now, as in, "How many swaddles do we need?"
6)You realize how quickly the infant stage is going to go, so you plot ways to get this stuff out of the house before you even bring it in.
7) You repeat the mantra, “40 is the new 20” as you try to haul your burgeoning girth out of bed.
8) You ask Siri if Botox is safe while breast-feeding.
9) Newborns look a whole lot scarier to you than teenagers.
10) You wonder how you’ll do it all again, but you remind yourself that you did it before, and what’s a few more gray hairs, anyway?
Love all of these, but my favorite by far is #1. Giggle. You'll do great!
ReplyDeleteThe best part is sitting at this vantage point you know what's important, perspective can be so grand!
ReplyDeleteLove it! As a 44yr old mom to 14yr old I would be nervous too! Love the newborns scare me more than teenagers! I never thought I would think that! lol
ReplyDeleteI think even the term "baby bump" is newish!
ReplyDeleteYou'll do it all again - and you'll do it well. By now you aren't doing the whole "flying by the seat of your pants" parenting. This time, you will know what's important and what's not.
ReplyDeleteMy girls are 9 years apart. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't find a drop side crib. I'm short and I needed it....oh they are now illegal? No wonder no one sold them any more! I was 38 when # 2 came!
ReplyDeleteAnna! You look beautiful. There's another new "thing" that I've noticed in pregnant women pictures. They always hold their hand under their baby bump so you can reallly see it! Have you noticed this. I noticed you did not do this:)
ReplyDeleteCindy
You look fantastic! You've got this.
ReplyDeleteAnna,
ReplyDeleteI'm still excited for you :-) (I realize I don't have to do any of the hard stuff though but you can do this - I just know you can. The Love/love will lift you up.)
Here is my one "if I could do it over" thing I would try and do - get a video clip of all the newborn faces they make while they are sleeping.
We used to joke "roll program" which is kind of a geeky engineering way of saying he was now running through all the possible expressions he could do with his face as a kind of review while he slept. I only got a partial video and it didn't include that little smile I had seen.
Anyway, if you get a chance to watch those faces, please try and get a video. I think you'll be glad you did. That phase doesn't last long.
You look great! Continued best wishes to you. <3
I feel your pain!! Pregnant with my 2nd boy at 39... surprise!! My oldest is 17 and the youngest is 9. Everything is different and completely new. Especially how my body reacts to this pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteI had my last child the year I turned 40. She was my 7th child. She is the "Caboose"...what I love about being an older mother is that I have more patience, perspective, and I legitimately got to go down the toy aisle for decades! She keeps me "young at heart"...I would definitely do it all over again!
ReplyDeleteI love that photo!! :D
ReplyDeleteThis is a great list. Had me smiling from ear to ear, along with the photo.
You're going to be great AGAIN, Mama! XOXO
I had to google 'baby-moon'!
ReplyDeleteI'm 44 with a 6 month old, a 7 year old and currently a broken foot. Oy! At least a couple times a day I think, Having babies is for young people WTF was I thinking? There are things I love about having a baby again and there are things I really do not love, even a little bit, like sleep deprivation. Not of it matters though when I look at the sweet little smiling face of my beautiful baby boy. I adore him and I'm counting on him to help keep me young.
ReplyDeleteHa! #8 made me spit my tea. LOL
ReplyDeleteYou're doing great. And wait, they don't sell drop sided cribs anymore?>???
I did it for the 5th time at 40...While we call her "the baby we didn't know we needed until she arrived"...she is the GREATEST gift and pure joy...7 years later we wonder how we ever took a breath without her. xoxoxo Meg
ReplyDeleteThere are far better products out there now, period, for moms and for babies--with both great form and function. I'm glad you and your wee sidekick will get to enjoy them!
ReplyDeletelove,
jbhat
The best part is when you go through menopause while your children go thru puberty! That's so fun!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your pregnancy! I had my 5 children between the ages of 38 and 45. It's challenging being an older mom, but nothing is more fulfilling! You look fabulous, by the way :)
ReplyDeleteI had twins at 41 when I had a 14 and a 17 year old. I feel like a new mom and a grandma all at the same time. You can't give them benadryl anymore??? Its lovely perspective on both sides. I however think a newborn is cake compared to a teenager but I love them all....and they love each other. Bonus points - you never have to have another safe sex conversation with your teenager - they get to see it in living color
ReplyDeleteI love you! You are so funny and wonderful. :)
ReplyDeleteI love love LOVE this post! I just had my 3rd boy a month ago at 36 and boy does your body feel different than when you're younger. Hilarious.
ReplyDelete#1 is so real! I had my last baby at 43 1/2 and I CANT SEE HER when I am holding her because it's too close for my old eyes! Never expected that this would be the greatest difficulty of having s baby this late.
ReplyDeleteCongratulation!!!!
