After Margaret's soccer game yesterday, as Tim drove a little too fast and swervy on the highway for our tastes, this is what we heard from the backseat:
"We're coming, Jack! We're coming!"
Gotta love that little girl.
For some of my favorite backseat chatter from the kids, check out this post.
Oh Anna. How funny. And that link - I spit out my tea!!!
Thank you for sharing a little moment of levity with us. I think about you constantly. Probably more than is healthy, but I can't help it. I definitely cry for you more than I should. But again, I can't help it. I'm an emotional pregnant woman, what can I say. Your friendship has touched me more than you'll ever know, as has your loss. Big fat hugs, dear Anna. xoxo
Isn't she a cutie! This made my day. I am sure that she misses him terribly but having her sense of humor come out is wonderful! I hope she won her game!
Like Christy, I probably think about your family more than is healthy, but I can't help myself (and I don't have a pregnancy to blame!) Laughter has always been my go-to coping mechanism in times of grief, so I couldn't help but laugh out loud at M's hilarious, well-timed comment. What an angel you've got there. My heart is still hurting for you and your family, and I continue to pray for you daily. Big hugs from Kentucky.
I don't know you - fell onto your blog from Miss Mustard Seed right after Jack's accident. I've read your entire blog from beginning to present. You amaze me - your courage and strength is something we would all aspire to you. Your children are precious. Jack will always be with you in spirit. My heart breaks for you. i look forward to the days when you have posted just to know you've survived yet another day. Keep strong Anna. You have a lot of love out here rooting for you every step of the way. xo Patty
Now that's a wicked sense of humour! :) I hope her braces aren't causing too much discomfort, they will be very worthwhile. Love to your beautiful family from ours. Pipxx
I completly get those comments from kids that make you want to cry and help you through the pain at the same time. My 6 year old passed away in an accident 3 years ago. my email is nfenchak@msn.com - i have some books about grief I really think were helpful for my surviving kids. Thinking about your family and what a beautiful boy Jack is.
my university, Mount Saint Mary's, in MD, has an All Souls Prayer Intention throughout the month of October, culminating in a Mass. I put Jack's name on the Intentions list.
"On November 2nd, the Feast of All Souls, a Mass will be offered for the deceased members of the Mount community, family members and friends. In addition, your prayer intentions will be placed on the Marian altar in the Immaculate Conception Chapel and remembered in our prayer of the faithful throughout the month of November."
That made me laugh out loud! What an amazing daughter you have! Thank you for sharing as there are so many of us that think and pray for you every day.
I don't know Margaret, but I love her. She's got it right too. Praise be to God, she's got it right. We don't know when -- and I know the waiting must feel like eternity ---but a grand reunion awaits. I was 30 when I lost my big brother to tragedy, so I know that your sweet girl will never get over longing to have Jack back. But I am praying that she can write and talk about him as much as she can -- even though it's painful -- because the vivid memories that I have (some captured concretely only through writing) are such a treasure. Praying hard for all of you, Anna.
Kids really do say the greatest things! Thank you for sharing her wonderful sense of humor and for the link, I laughed out loud about the pregnant one! Sending you happy thoughts and many prayers, ~ Brooke
She's hilarious! So great that you have her -- and that she has such a great sense of humor :)
Anna, I do think of you every day; your grace lifts me up. I wish I could take a tiny bit of your pain and carry it for you; if only we could all do that, it would lighten your load. Keep writing and know we're here and we care.
Oh man, that's funny. How did Tim stay composed enough to drive? And did he slow down? What a wonderful family you have. And huge cheers for laughing through pain and knowing she was safe and loved enough that you'd take her comment the right way, as intended. LOVE this.
Love love hearing from you. Though I don't know you, I pray daily for your sweet family and find myself thinking of you all very often. Praise God for sweet Margaret and her awesome sense of humor! Keep writing when you can...you're such an inspiration. Big hugs.
Wow, I love that Margaret, what a sense of humor. And I love the link to more backseat chatter. and I love you and think of you so often during each day. XOXO
She sounds like the coolest girl on the planet! What an amazing mom, dad, and brother she must have to have made her that way :) Thinking of the loss of such a beautiful boy makes immeasurably sad....I can only imagine he's going to be a kick ass guardian angel for the rest of your lives :)
She's beautiful. Your children are beautiful, and she is wise, and funny and she's probably the glue that is helping you guys right now. Your family is still in my prayers.
Anna thank you for sharing. Those are funny back seat memories.Margaret looks cute with her braces.I remember when my DD got her braces put on.She looked so much older :-(. Blessings to you and your family as we continue to keep you all in our prayers.
You are not our worst nightmare, Anna. You are living it, but YOU are not IT. I should have commented over at that post, but I've been mulling over in my mind and heart all that you shared there. It gives me goosebumps.
What you actually are is a beacon of hope. No mother can imagine that she could ever survive what you are living. But, reading your posts, knowing that you can get out of bed in the morning, get dressed and actually show up for orthodontic appts. and soccer games; well, that gives me hope that I too might be able to survive if something were to happen to one of my 9 children. (yes, I'm aware that having 9 kids increases my odds of losing one of them)
I too know the One in whom your hope rests. I pray often for your family, that He will sustain you, will comfort you, will keep your family and marriage strong in the face of such grief and loss.
I understand that Heaven takes on an even greater attraction when one you love so dearly has gone on ahead of you. I too love Margaret's sense of humor and am touched by her certainty of exactly where Jack is right now, more fully alive than ever before, as your pastor shared at his memorial service.
She is so funny. You're little guy is looking on, laughing at his sister's sassyness, thinking that it is typical of her. You are doing so well, keep going. It is still a case of one foot in front of the other, one step at a time. Just know that so many people are willing you on with each step, sending all four of you as much positivity and love as possible.
What a cutie! The braces look perfect on her.

Oh, what a BEAUTIFuL sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteOh, the beautiful sense of humor.
A gift from God.
I speak on this very subject: the gift of a sense of humor.
Where God knew, "this is gonna be tough, gonna have to give 'em something for that."
THAT WAS WONDERFUL.
