Spring is in the Air, and On the Curb

For those of you who aren't into furniture re-dos, I'm sorry for yet another dumpster diving post!

But spring is in the air, and that seems to correlate to the quantity, if not quality, of stuff to be found curbside.

Here is the dresser that 2 sweet 9 yr old girls helped me load into my car Friday night:

Great shape, but a distressing job-- handles and all-- that that was a bit...distressing.

Despite a carport work area beseiged by rain, blowing blossoms, and pollen, this is how she ended up:

First I primed her with Kilz using a small foam roller. Two coats of semi-gloss paint in a putty color from Lowe's "Ooops" shelf. Then I rubbed on finishing wax/paste. I primed and painted the drawer pulls in Heirloom white spray paint. Oh how I wish the photos did her justice, and that I had room for her in my house!

Total cost: $3.00

I love spring!

  1. Bee you tiful! I love your projects. I'm not into such things, and I'd also have no place to put them if I were, but I so enjoy seeing yours. Do not apologize1

I love a blog of many topics!

  2. Adore! Absolutely in love - and super jealous that you live in a place that people just leave this stuff for you to pick up! I just bought a similar piece at goodwill for $125. (Don't judge)

I love that you used a difference color paint than white or black or regular stain. Love it! You are amazingly talented.

  5. So gorgeous! I'm in love with it vicariously through photos, like some teenage girl crushing on a boy band member! You did good! There's never any good stuff on curbs here...or maybe I simply don't have the eye for things in their pre-fantastic state. That's probably more like it (though I will say, even today, when I see Simon LeBon, I'm that same teenage girl crushing on a boy band member, so maybe...)

  11. Now that's an outstanding curbside find! Love all the Frenchy goodness and that color is perfect for it. I found you through Transformation Thursdays and I can't take a peek around here. The dumpster diving part of your blog header has my interest piqued...my husband has started doing that and it's quickly turning into an obsession for him! :)

  12. Love your dumpster dive posts! I need to start doing more of this kind of thing - maybe we can have a weekly Salvation Army date?

Hope you and Molly had some fun girl bonding time.

  15. Okay ... I look everywhere around here. And nobody seems to be dumping any furniture for ME to do a dive. Harumph!

Love your re-dos! You simply must sell them on Craigslist ... you'd make a fortune!

  16. That's gorgeous
I always wonder, tho, what's the shape of the stuff you pick up? Like, it looks beautiful but are the drawers falling apart?

bc if they aren't you are one lucky lady. And if they are, who fixes them? Are you THAT handy? Gosh, is there anything you can't do?!?!

  22. Fabulous project! How did you manage to keep the cost to only $3.00? The spray paint for the drawer pulls alone must've been more than that.
